What do you feed your heart?

A Native American grandmother was talking to her granddaughter.
She said, “Sometimes you will feel as if you have two
wolves fighting in your heart. One wolf is vengeful, angry, and afraid. The other wolf is loving, compassionate
and confident.”
The granddaughter asked her, “Which wolf will win the
fight in my heart?”
The grandmother answered, “The one you feed.”

art-heartWhat do you feed your heart?

Do you feed it good or bad, positive or negative, happy or sad. Do you allow life to feed you whatever the heck it wants or do you make damn sure you’re in control of exactly what feeds your heart, mind and soul? Are you even aware that you have a choice?

It’s simple really. Take control of the negative influences that feed your life. Ditch them and replace them with inspiration and beauty. You will feel better, more positive, happier. Much happier. Even a few simple changes can make a huge difference….

  1. Stop watching, listening to and reading the news. Just stop. Instead, play your favourite music while preparing dinner, switch the radio off for those few minutes of news, buy an inspiring magazine or read a book instead of the newspaper. Don’t be concerned that you’ll miss out on something important. Believe me if it’s that important you’ll hear about it.
  2. Refuse to watch anything on TV that isn’t inspiring, uplifting, educational or funny. There are so many horrible depressing shows on it’s ridiculous. Don’t watch them. Hire the latest thriller on DVD and enjoy a movie night every now and then if you must but don’t wallow in murder and other peoples misery every night. That’s just a terrible waste of precious time. Instead, sure, enjoy the good stuff on tele or why not use that time to do something that will really make a difference to your life. Set some goals, read a good book, catch up on your favourite inspirational blogs or start one of your own, learn something new. I could list a million things here but the point is do something that makes you happy. Find it and do it.
  3. Don’t hang with negative people. Yep, steer clear of them altogether if you can. If you can’t, don’t listen when they get started. Walk away or try throwing something positive back at them every time. Try it. You’ll feel better and they may eventually thank you for it.
  4. Be aware of the way you react to things. Truly take notice. If you find yourself reacting in a negative way to everyday stuff, change. It is possible to learn how to react to things in a positive way and it’s not that hard, you just have to want to. There’s plenty of good books on the subject. Read one or two or three of them. Whatever it takes.
  5. Don’t waste your money and time on trashy women’s magazines.  Why would you when there are many other great mags available to inspire you.

You will find that simply taking control of these five influences will make a massive difference to your life. Don’t feed the negative. Instead, do whatever you can to nurture the positive and give your heart and soul a chance to shine.

  1. amen! you said it all!!! I am bi polar/manic dep… been this way for 40 years. Gradually, I have learned to overcome it for the most part. I am functionable now. The Lord helped me through it. And yes, it IS a choice.. but in situations such as mine when mental illness is involved, it’s a bit more complex. I literally spent minutes, hours, days, weeks, months TWENTY FOUR SEVEN.. NO LIE… praying, crying, speaking light, life, positive things, things that are good and right and lovely and righteous and even holy. we all have at least one angel assigned to us ya know, some days I think I had the whole army LOL… Now, I have some tough days, but at least I can leave my home, etc. I help others now and it’s wonderful.. thanks for your inspirational and the picture I really like it. I draw and write poetry as well….. :)…

  2. Hey, thanks for sharing your life with me.
I can relate a little as I have struggled with anxiety over the years.
It’s lovely to hear your wonderful faith and determined soul rising above it all.
Keep the faith, keep helping others and take good care of yourself.
